KUTTAB ACADEMY
WHAT IS "KUTTAB"?
Traditionally, the word Kuttab (كُتَّاب) in Arabic referred to the local community school which children attended to learn Quran, Arabic and religious knowledge. As regular gatherings to acquire knowledge, Kuttabs existed since the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). During his caliphate, the caliph Umar (may God raise his rank) took special care in organizing and spreading Kuttabs in the different corners of the Islamic world. He assigned great companions to lead them, such as ^Abdullah ibn Mas^oud in the city of Koofah, ^Imran ibn Hussayn in the city of Bassrah, Mu^ath ibn Jabal in Al-Sham and others. With time, the Kuttabs continued to grow in size to become large institutes hosting thousands of students in some instances. They also grew in number – there was a time when there was more than 230 Kuttabs in Damascus alone.
OUR TEACHERS
Kuttab Academy was established at the heart of our community to provide an effective and affordable learning experience of Quran, Arabic language and Islamic heritage. We here to make this knowledge accessible to the largest number of people in our communicty at a fraction of the price and to tackle the problem of finding qualified Quran teachers near home for the residents of Montreal.
Our teachers are certified in Quran recitation and Arabic literature. Since 2009, they have been providing teaching services to our community in the greater Montreal area. In accordance with our quality standards, we do not accept random volunteers as teachers at our academy.

Great to see that Kuttab is in Montreal! Especially in Villeray! Kuttab has a great approach integration of Quran + language + islamic practices. I know other Quran centers where the kids get to read Quran but they don't understand what they are reading. At Kuttab there is Tafseer and there is Arabic .. I definitely recommend Kuttab Academy to all parents!

Ce que j'aime chez Kuttab c'est le programme. Il est très bien structuré. Au début ils vont faire un petit examen pour décider le niveau de l'enfant. Le programme se concentre sur la maîtrise de la récitation du Coran et la langue arabe. Pour moi il est très important que mes enfants comprennent bien la langue. Je recommande à tout le monde de mettre ses enfants avec Kuttab surtout s'ils vont à l'école publique et n'apprennent pas l'arabe. Que Dieu tout-puissant nous guide tous.
